Gateway Ekamai had a soft opening during July and August 2012. This new shopping mall is located at and connected with the Ekamai skytrain station.
Spread over 8 floors (including basement level) and covering close to 100,000 square meter, this mall caters mostly to the large Japanese community in Bangkok. It is developed by the Thippatana Arcade Co. Ltd., a part of TCC Land Group with an interest in housing projects and condominiums.

Striking is the large number of Japanese restaurant mostly on the mezzanine floor level. Besides the restaurants, there is also a neat food court on the lower levels. But different other levels are of course also of interest to the more general public, not looking for sushi and sashimi. The first floor has different beauty salons and health related shops. Fashion outlets, small boutique shops, are present on the second floor, a bit of a small version of what is available at Terminal 21 at the Asoke-Sukhumvit intersection. Technology and IT are very well represented on the upper floors. Various smart phone providers, an iStudio, and a huge IT City outlet are present.
Japanese-style decorations cover most of the mall.
A supermarket is also located at the lower floors. The shops are located around a wide, well decorated central atrium. This is a substantial shopping mall, however without an anchored department store present. Probably a very good place if you like to start your evening with some Japanese exquisite dining.
