Prachuap Khiri Khan is the northernmost province of what generally is considered the South of Thailand. It is a narrow province, still withing easy reach by car from Bangkok. Hua Hin, arguably its most important town, is located at the northern border of Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Hua Hin is an important seaside resort. In the early 1900's King Rama VII built the summer palace of Klai Klangwon, which at present is still in use. Hua Hin has many upper-end beach resorts. It is still much more popular with Thais than with foreign visitors, who are catching up quick though.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park offers after some climbing, good views of the Prachuap Khiri Khan coastline. Khao Krachom offers the best views, but you might have to d some strenuous exercise to get up there. The national park still has some notable wildlife like macaques, dusky langurs, slow luris etc. There are also some important caves : Tham Phraya Nakhon, Tham Kaew, Tham Sai. Tham Phraya Nakhon is the most visited. It is possibly to hire an English-speaking guide to visit any of the caves. The park is located about midway between Hua Hin (north of the province) and the provincial capital Prachuap Khiri Khan. From Hua Hin take transport to Pranburi and from there to the National Park.
Prachuap Khiri Khan city is the provincial capital. This is a very good place to enjoy the local seafood. Located at Ao Prachuap bay. South of town is the echanting Ao Manao bay. Just north of town is Khao Chong Krajok (mirror tunnel mountain), where you can get a good view of the town and the bay. On top of the mountain a temple was built by King Rama VI, Wat Thammikaram.
Wat Khao Tham Khan Kradai is located about 8 km north of Prachuap Khiri Khan town, a cave temple on a beautiful bay.
Dan Singkhon lies at the narrowest point of Thailand (between the Gulf of Thailand, and Myanmar) at only about 12 km.

Hat Ban Krut and Bang Saphan Yai are located 40-60 km south of Prachuap Khiri Khan, and offer still relatively undeveloped beaches. Good snorkelling can be done at nearby islands of Ko Thalu and Ko Sing from January till May.
